All about “Mediterranean Diet”

One of the healthiest ways of living in this world of continuous temptation and excess is to adopt a Mediterranean style diet. This diet is one that has been around since Roman times at least and advocates the consumption of lots of vegetables, pulses and wine. It contains much less fat than other western diets and the fats that are consumed in a Mediterranean style diet are more of the ‘good fats’ such as olive oil.

Wine is an integral part of this diet. In these days of binge drinking any kind of alcohol is demonized by people drinking way too much and getting violent form the effects of the drink. In countries such as Spain and Italy drinking is very much part of their culture. Wine is drunk with most meals – usually with water on had too minimise the effects of the alcohol. Wine is seen as an extension of the food. In most regions the grapes are grown locally and the wine is just another product of the region and therefore integral to the people who live there.

We all have our versions of a Mediterranean diet and in fact we have probably all at one time wanted to move to a Mediterranean country where wine and food are enjoyed at a much slower pace when compared to out fast food culture. A Mediterranean diet allows food and wine to be enjoyed and savoured – it is not something that you just eat on the run.

So what is a typical Mediterranean diet? Salads, fish, olives, bread, and red wine are all the things that come to mind immediately. There are also pasta, potatoes, rice and cheese but these are eaten in much more moderation than one would normally consume in Northern Europe.mediterranean-diet

The ubiquitous red wine is drunk with food. This means that there is much less of a chance of drunkenness. The food soaks up much of the wine leaving lot less of a chance of drinking too much and also because people tend to sit and chat whilst they eat there is much less chance of over eating or drinking. After all when you are full of food you have much less room for alcoholic drinks.

There are a range of wines that go with this kind of healthy Mediterranean diet. Some of the best known are from Italy. Chianti and Frascati are both popular Italian table wines that are often overlooked now. This is because they are seen to be not as high end as some French wines but they taste great and go well with the food. Of course if you are going for tapas a Spanish red wine is essential you can go for Rioja or something from Navarra. Finally if you are a fan of seafood look out for a vinho verde which is wonderful with all kinds of fish and comes from Portugal.

Help The Environment: “Use Paper”

With today's climate change concerns, the need for paper efficiency is high, a common with paper being not only the destruction of woodland for it but also the landfill space it takes up. Even though many people do actively recycle their paper, there is a significant amount that do not, and a certain amount of the recycled paper still ends up in a fill anyway.

Furthermore, recycling in itself, with the pulping, bleaching and production process, requires a large amount of energy which is papers_346x447 almost as damaging as the landfills. Therefore the battle lies with minimizing paper usage before the document is even discarded in the bin; recycling still remains a very important practice but perhaps focus should turn to cutting down the amount of paper being used in the first place.

Paper efficiency is the task of being aware of how much paper is needed to perform a specific task, the main premise being to complete the same task but using little if any paper at all. One of the main tools for paper efficiency is a duplex printing machine; by printing on both sides of a piece of paper you can still attain the same information but on half the amount of the paper. Further to this you can shrink the size of the document to an A5 size and have two, what would ordinarily be A4 documents, onto one side. Doing this will half the amount of paper used again.

When purchasing paper opt for recycled or paper with minimal thickness, as less fiber is needed to produce the paper therefore more of it is produced overall.

Document scanning is also very useful for reducing a company’s paper waste. Scanning all documentation onto a computer system dramatically decreases the amount of paper waste and allows for easier access and security to important information with search and passwords being enabled.

One of the most efficient means of reducing paper usage is with the aid of a computer. When receiving an email avoids printing it out, if your company sends out invoices choose to do so via email similarly with receipts. Try to keep all documentation on a digital format to reduce the amount of paper used in the daily business day. Rules and laws are relaxing with regards to digital documents; it is now okay to store important documents in a digital format and a digital signature can now be accepted as legal authorization.

Taking these small steps can certainly help paper efficiency and contribute towards increasing sustainability.

Tips To Choose The Healthiest Chocolate

No doubt, you're as happy as I am that chocolate is good for you. Research indicates that flavanols, the compounds found in cocoa, have antioxidant properties that help mop up the damage done by free radicals. These same compounds also relax artery walls and keep blood platelets from sticking to your arteries, thus reducing your chance of heart disease. (Too bad the serving size is 35 grams - or about the size of a 1cm stack of business cards - and not the whole bar.) To choose the healthiest chocolate, here's what to look for on the label.

Percentage of Cocoa

The amount of cocoa can vary from 10 percent to as high as 94. Generally, the more cocoa, the more flavanols, although processing methods can lower flavanol levels. Aim for a bar with a minimum of 35 percent cocoa.

Calories

Most chocolates contain 220 to 280 calories per 42 grams, or about 350 grams, so eat sparingly.

Ingredients List

Quality chocolate is made with cocoa butter and milkfat. If vegetable oil or hydrogenated oil is included, skip it completely.

Fat Content

Look for zero trans fat. Total fat can be as high as 20 grams per serving because the more cocoa in a bar, the more fat it will contain.

Suffering from Arthritis? These exercises will help

You seem to be restless all day and feel terrible pain during nighttime. It seems endless, the cycle of pain and immobility, not having the means to do the things you used to do and the stress and boredom that go with it. When the pain of arthritis torments you, you most likely would long for some rest rather than exercise which seems to be exhausting and painful altogether.

It is a mistaken notion that exercise can further damage your joints. On the other hand, doing moderate exercises have shown significant impact in the overall well being of patients suffering from arthritis. Patients should of course refrain from doing high-impact exercises as this may aggravate their condition.

There are, however, a variety of low-impact or moderate exercises that have shown incredible benefits such as reduction of joint pain and the strengthening of muscles around the affected joint. It has also improved overall health and fitness by creating a healthy self-esteem, reducing depressive symptoms, controlling obesity, improving sleep, and boosting energy.

Top 7 Exercise Plans for Arthritis

• Exercises in the pool
• Yoga
• Pilates
• Callanetics
• Qigong
• Tai Qi
• Walking

Water Therapy

Water therapy or pool exercises are great for people with arthritis. The water’s buoyancy helps relax the affected joints and aids free movement as it does not put too much strain on your joints while you do the exercises. It would be advisable to use warm water as this dilates the blood vessels and helps increase good blood circulation which is recommended for your swollen joints.

Yoga

The practice of yoga originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. This is one of the mind-body integrating movement practices that have spiritual origins. The word yoga is derived from Sanskrit; which means to "yoke," or unify the three mantras of mind, body, and spirit. This is an alternative to traditional exercise which mainly focuses on bodily strength and endurance. Yoga is a combination of physical movement exercises, spiritual cleansing, and certain lifestyle modifications. It is centered on having the chakras aligned in achieving equilibrium in your holistic frame of well-being.

Pilates

The essential principle of pilates focuses on breathing and body awareness. This program widely promotes spinal health. This can also be customized to fit your need especially if you have swollen and painful joints to begin with. Contracting your muscles without mobilizing your joints does this.

Callanetics

Callanetics is a non-impact exercise regimen, which was developed by Callan Pickney in 1980 that incorporates small yet precise pulses or movements for those who want to shape up as well as improve their arthritic symptoms. It is proven to improve the conditions of people with scoliosis, osteoporosis, arthritis, and Crone’s disease.

Qigong

Qigong is a traditional Chinese medicine treatment like that of acupuncture. Qi means “breath of life” and gong means “achievement”. It supports the notion that good health is derived from a free flowing qi system while diseases could mean that there is blockage in the natural flow. It also includes proper breathing techniques, physical poses, as well as a good focus of intention. The benefits derived from this program include increased mobility of the affected joints, less inflammation or swelling, reduction of pain and tenderness, decreased anxiety, and an overall state of well-being.

Tai Qi

One of the principles of eastern arts is Tai Qi. Same with Qigong, this also integrates the importance of combining both physical and mental exercises to be able to acquire holistic and balanced positive results. This is a low-impact exercise technique, which also involves deep breathing as well as visualization exercises coupled with stretching regimen and cardio workout. This has proven to decrease stress as well as reduce tension, stress, and arthritic symptoms such as joint pain, inflammation, tenderness, and the like. It thrives in the principle that to heal the body and alleviate bodily toxins, one must deal with the inner self and free ourselves of emotional baggage or stressors that could have caused us these diseases in the first place.

Walking

Walking has always been the simplest and basic form of exercise that almost anyone can do. No trainings or coaching needed whatsoever. This is great to clear our minds of worthless thoughts and help strengthen our flexibility and endurance as well. A breath of fresh air is what we need when we want to rejuvenate and think. Just make sure that you have the appropriate walking shoes with good support and shock absorbency. You determine the pace and how far you walk. Do not overwork your legs though; just be cautious because it might aggravate rather than help if you are not careful. Develop a rhythm and enjoy the walk. You can do this with your wife or husband; it would be a fun and intimate activity for both of you.

These exercise regimens alone would not be a guarantee that your symptoms will be improved. This should be supported by a healthy diet, plenty of rest, water therapy, drinking multivitamins and food supplements, and having a positive mental attitude. You will go places as long as you have faith. It may be a long and rigorous ride, but it will be well worth it along the way.

Windows 7 launched by Microsoft Corporation

After disappointing Vista, Microsoft launches Windows 7, which is considered as its most important release for more than a decade. The release of Windows 7 is aimed to win back customers & also to strengthen its grip on the PC market.

The new OS has received good reviews & so Microsoft hopes that it will grab back the impetus in new technology from rivals Apple Inc and Google Inc.

"It's the first really significant release of Windows in a decade," analyst Brendan Barnicle of Pacific Crest Securities said Television. "Given the missteps around Vista, people really questioned Microsoft's relevancy in the technology space. So this is a critical first step for Microsoft regaining that credibility."

Windows 7 comes almost three years after the launch of Windows Vista, whose complexity frustrated many home users and turned off business customers. The new system is much faster; less cluttered and has new touch screen features.

The success of Windows -- which accounts for more than half of Microsoft's profit -- is crucial for Chief Executive Steve Ballmer to revive the company's image as the world's most important software firm.

"I have to say I'm chomping at the bit," Ballmer told an audience of Microsoft customers and partners in Toronto on Wednesday, adding that he is ready to make sales calls himself on Windows 7.

Sales won't immediately impact the bottom line of Microsoft, which is expected to post a lower quarterly profit on Friday.

Obesity can lead to more than 10000 types of cancer

According to a study, more than 10,000 types of cancer are be caused by obesity.

The amount of estrogen circulating in the body increases due to excessive fat, which in turn disrupts how the body processes insulin. All this is linked to higher risk of cancer.

It also triggers low-grade inflammation in the body, which is increasingly being found to play a role in cancer.

According to the researchers, people should remain physically active and should maintain normal body weight throughout life.

Weight gain after a cancer diagnosis is also likely to affect the outcome, say researchers.

"An increasing number of studies suggest that regular physical activity improves cancer survival, even among survivors who are overweight or obese,” the Independent quoted AICR researchers as saying.

"Public awareness of the link between obesity and cancer risk is alarmingly low," said Alice Bender, MS, RD, and Nutrition Communications Manager at AICR.

"We are working towards a day when obesity is right up there with tobacco in the public eye," Bender added.

The AICR estimates show that excess body fat is linked to 49pct of endometrial cancers, 35pct of esophageal cancers 28pct of pancreatic cancers, 24pct of kidney cancers, 21pct of gallbladder cancers, and 17pct of breast cancers and 9pct of colorectal cancers.

In a sad event MNS MLA Slapped Abu Azmi for taking oath in Hindi

MUMBAI: Defying Raj Thackeray's MNS diktat asking all newly-elected MLAs to takeoath in Marathi, Samajwadi Party's Maharashtra chief Abu Azmi took his oath in Hindi. He was the centre of MNS MLA's wrath, as they protested loudly and even threw an object at him.

As Azmi started to take his oath in Hindi, several MNS members swooped on him and pushed him aside. Legislator Ramesh Banjle uprooted the microphone from the podium.

MNS members shouted slogans, demanding that Azmi should take oath in Marathi.

As Azmi attempted to save himself, MNS member Ram Kadam slapped him and hit him on the face and chest, shocking the 288-member house that had converged for the oath-taking ceremony.

The House was adjourned for 30 minutes.

Samajwadi Party's general secretary Amar Singh, in Abu Azmi's defense, said that Union Minister MK Azhagiri had chosen Tamil for his parliamentary duties. Despite the MNS's antics, the constitution does not lay down any rule that oaths cannot be taken in regional languages.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Energy Minister Ajit Pawar tried to restore calm in the House.

MNS Chief Raj Thackeray had last month announced that his party legislators would ensure that all MLAs took oath in Marathi.

Natural Treatment For Acne

Acne is a persistent disorder of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Some of the features of acne include black heads, pimples, cysts, infected abscesses, and rarely scarring. Acne usually occurs during adolescence in both men and women and tends to get worse for people with oily skin.

Acne badly affects teenage boys but only mild to moderate forms of acne occur in middle-aged women. Acne is usually found on the face but other areas where it can occur include the neck, chest, back, shoulders, scalp, and the upper arms and legs. Most forms of acne are the result of heredity and hormonal problems and have little to do with a harmful diet or poor hygiene.

Acne usually starts in a similar way for all people. However it can take different forms and react in a particular way depending on the individual body conditions. A basic lesion called the comedo is the beginning of acne. The comedo is an enlarged hair follicle plugged with oil and bacteria which is found under the surface of your skin. When the conditions are right it grows into an inflamed lesion. When the skin produces more oil the bacteria will grow within the swollen follicle. The surrounding skin will become increasingly inflamed as the white blood cells fight against the bacteria.

There are two main types of acne: non-inflammatory acne and inflammatory acne.

Both 'closed comedo' and 'open comedo' are forms of non-inflammatory acne. If the plugged follicle stays below the surface of the skin, the lesion is called a closed comedo. This will usually appear on the skin as small, whitish bumps. This condition is also called as whitehead. Open Comedo is what the lesion is called if the plug enlarges and pushes through the surface of the skin. The dark appearance of the plug is not due to dirt but due to the build-up of melanin, the pigmentation element of the skin. This condition is also called blackhead.

There are a number of different types of inflammatory acne. Papule appears on the skin as a small, firm pink bump. The papules are tender in nature and are usually considered an intermediary step between non-inflammatory and inflammatory lesions. Pustules are small round lesions that are inflamed and contain visible pus, which appear red at the base with a yellowish or whitish centre. Pustules do not contain a large amount of bacteria and the inflammation is caused by chemical irritation from sebum components such as fatty free acids.

Cysts are large pus-filled lesions that are usually present deep within the skin. These cysts are painful lesions and form as a result of the contents of a comedo spilling over the surrounding skin. The cysts often leave deep scars. Acne conglobata is a rare but serious form of inflammatory acne that develops mainly on the back, buttocks and the chest. As well as the presence of pustules and cysts, there may be severe bacterial infection.

The common symptoms of acne include persistent, recurrent red spots or swellings on the skin. These spots and swellings become inflamed and get filled with pus. They usually occur on the face, chest, shoulders, neck, or upper portion of the back. Other symptoms include dark spots with open pores at the centre, which are known as blackheads, large spots under the skin without openings, which are known as whiteheads and red swellings filled with pus, which are known as pustules. The pustules can develop from blackheads or whiteheads. Inflamed fluid-filled lumps under the skin known as cysts are also a symptom of acne.

What are natural remedies for acne? Most people will know the value of their face. The healthier it is, the more advantageous it will be for the person. In general, our confidence relies on our contentment in our physical appearance. When one thinks he or she looks good, the confidence is a lot higher.

For growing up, the growth of spots is a really major concern. For those who do not have problems involving the face, congratulations! For those who are crying over it, there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel!

Is acne your problem? Are you spending too much money for chemical remedies? Do you want to apply a remedy but you are afraid it may be harsh? The answer is to use the natural way of treating your acne. The treatment is right in your home. The doctor is right within you.

The most effective beauty tip of all times is to drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Hydrating your body will help you get rid toxins. Love your body and love your skin.

Health and hygiene will also help. Make sure that you do not leave makeup products on your skin because it contributes to clogging your pores, causing more spots and blackheads. Do not sleep with make-up on. Also, keep your hair away from your face. Hair contains oil that may create breakouts to your skin.

Wash your pillow case and towels as they are absorbent and will absorb many acne-contributors. Lastly, never pick your spots. You do not want your face to be as dirty as your fingernails.

Make sure that you eat healthy food because when you have acne you need to cleanse yourself not only on the outside but also on the inside. It will also help if you lessen your oily or fatty food intake. Eating food rich in fibre is a remedy. Moreover, in order for you to maintain a healthy skin, eating food that is considered anti-oxidants will make a big difference. Food rich in Vitamins A, B and D as well as those rich in calcium, potassium, phosphorus, chloride, magnesium, zinc, iron and sodium will do the job.

When you maintain a diet, which is high in beta-carotene and zinc, it will also be of help not only as prevention but also in the healing process and anti-scarring of acne.

Beauty is skin deep but having beautiful skin will make you feel more beautiful for yourself.

5 Reasons Why People Fail At Weight Loss

Why do so many people fail at losing weight? Is it because they are lazy? No. Is it because they are addicted to food? No. Is it because they aren’t good at exercising? No. Failure at weight loss stems from a few main factors:

1) People don't truly understand the risks of being overweight. Why do most want to lose weight? Most would say to look better. Looking better certainly is a benefit of losing weight, but this shouldn’t be the sole reason to lose weight. There is a 1000 pound gorilla in the room and it’s often ignored. Being overweight for a long period of time kills thousands of people each year.

Thousands of studies have show and proven without any doubt that losing body fat will improve and lengthen your life. This e-Book will give you a picture of the dangers of being overweight. Knowing the dangers of being overweight is a tremendous motivator to not only loses fat, but to keep it off.

2) People don't commit to permanent lifestyle changes. So many people think of a "diet" as something temporary. When they are on a "diet" they restrict themselves so much that they are miserable. Sooner or later failure is inevitable because of the unreasonable demands of most "diets." Some of these diets force you to only eat certain foods (e.g., no crabs, special soups etc…) you, like I, have probably tried them before. The key to losing weight long term is to make gradual lifestyle changes you can stick to forever.

3) Most individuals are not provided the truthful facts of losing weight and becoming healthier. With the conflicting information in the media, and all of the different lose weight quick fad diets.it’s understandable why so many people really don’t know the truth about losing fat and keeping it off long term. We will go over the no-nonsense truth.

4) Most people don't understand they are constantly either gaining fat, or losing fat. There is no in-between. Some people justify binging or giving up because they hit a small road-block. This isn’t an all or nothing game. For example, when I was overweight, if I ate an unhealthy lunch, I’d go ahead and eat an unhealthy dinner since I already "messed up" the day. Or I’d say, I’ll start eating healthy on Monday since I’ve already eaten poorly this weekend. Every person at times eats too much. The successful people will not let a road bump completely derail their entire lifestyle change. If you are not implementing positive lifestyle changes and losing weight, you are gaining weight. Again, there is no "in-between."

5) Most people don't realize what they consume each day. So many overweight people eat thousands of extra calories and fat without realizing it. It’s tough to know if you are gaining weight or losing weight each day unless you are keeping an eye on what you’re consuming.

Answering to the question on the change in party leadership after its dismal performance in three assembly elections, he said change will take place "but at its own time. I only said what I have been told (by the BJP), they have a plan in mind and it is rolling on."

On the issue of Sangh 'intervening' and 'imposing' itself on BJP, the 59-year-old Sarsanghchalak said "the RSS never intervenes, only gives advice when asked."

A Gunman opened Fire at Us Military Base: 12 dead, 31 wounded

On Thursday a psychiatrist from U.S Army opened fire with two handguns at the Fort Hood Army post, killing 12 and wounding 31 others, Army officials said.

It was previously believed that the suspect was Killed but according to the army official, the suspect is still alive.

The man was identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a 39-year-old from Virginia.
U.S Army Firing

The suspect who is a psychiatrist in U.S Army had earlier treated soldiers wounded in foreign wars preparing for foreign deployment at the post.

"Our investigation is ongoing but preliminary reports indicate that there was a single shooter," Lieutenant-General Robert Cone, Fort Hood's commanding officer, told a news conference. "The shooter is not dead but in custody in stable condition."

US President Barack Obama called the shooting at the Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening, “a horrific outburst of violence.”

“It's difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas,'' the commander in chief said. ``It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an Army base on American soil.''

Fort Hood is home to about 50,000 troops, although Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison said only about 35,000 were on base at the time. The fort, established in 1942, stretches across 339 square miles (878 square km) in central Texas and is the largest single employer in Texas.

Hasan, whose family said he was born in suburban Washington, is single with no children. He graduated from Virginia Tech, where he was a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, in 2001 and was at Walter Reed for six years for his internship, residency and a fellowship.

The attack happened just down the road from one of the worst mass shootings in US history. On Oct. 16, 1991, George Hennard smashed his pickup truck through a Luby's Cafeteria window in Killeen, Texas, and fired on the lunchtime crowd with a high-powered pistol, killing 22 people and wounding at least 20 others.

The incident raised new questions about the toll that six years of continuous fighting in Iraq and nearly eight years of fighting in Afghanistan have taken on the U.S. military and on individual soldiers, many of whom have been on several combat tours.

Wipro buys a part of personal care brand Yardley for Rs 215 crores

Bangalore: A part of personal care brand Yardley’s business in Asia, Middle East, Australia and north and west Africa has been acquired by Wipro’s consumer care division for about $45.5 million (about Rs 215 crore)

This business was owned by UK-based Lornamead Group, which had bought Yardley from Procter & Gamble in 2005. In the regions that Wipro has acquired the brand for, Yardley has annual revenue run rate of $24 million (about Rs 100 crore). About 70% of this comes from the Middle East and 20% from India.

The brand, first established almost two and a half centuries ago, in 1770, gives Wipro a range of products in the premium end of the personal care segment. Vineet Agrawal, president of Wipro080707033534_Wipro1-1 consumer care, said it would complement the company's Santoor brand, positioned in the popular segment, and brands like Enchanteur that it acquired from Singapore-based Unza in 2007.

Enchanteur is priced almost double than Santoor talcum powder ( 100 gm ) which is priced at Rs 36 whereas Yardley is priced at Rs 68. Santoor soap (100 gm) is priced at Rs 18 and Yardley at Rs 40. "Yardley has a strong equity amongst discerning customers and has traditionally been a great gifting brand," Nagender Arya, regional director in Wipro, said.

Wipro’s consumer care revenues grew by 37% in 2008 – 09 to touch Rs 2,083 crore, which is 8% of the It major’s total revenues. The division has an operating margin of 12-13%. Agrawal said Yardley is a profitable brand and could help to take the division's margins higher.

Talcum powder constitutes 40% of Yardley's revenues, deodorants 20%, soaps 14% and perfumes 9%. Arya said Wipro will give a greater push to deos to cater to the younger generation. "We also have a good understanding of soaps. So we'll see if we can manufacture some of that here to avoid duties," he said. Santoor is India's third biggest soap brand, after HUL's Lifebuoy and Lux.

Yardley's business in India is currently small but Wipro plans to use its distribution reach in over 50,000 outlets in metros and class 1 cities to expand the business.

Since 2003 Wipro's consumer care has made five acquisitions, of which Unza’s acquisitions was the biggest, which was at a cost of $246 million. That deal took Wipro into global markets, especially those in South East Asia. Yardley now gives it a strong presence in the Middle East.

Herbal Vaporizer Units - The Best & the Cheapest Way for Avoiding Smoke.

Vaporizers must be lauded as to being the biggest find of the century. In fact, these are the single most effective inventions of maximum utility for people who love to smoke. There are a lot of people who have been advised by doctors and other medical experts to cut down on smoking due to its injurious effects on the health of an individual. However, due to the addicting nature of smoke and the components employed by it, it is very difficult for an individual to get rid of the habit. But now, it is possible for one to get rid of the habit of smoking. The herbal vaporizer is a device which allows one to inhale the vapors of their favorite herb, be it tobacco or something else, in a healthy manner.

The herbal vaporizer makes sure that one is able to inhale only the vapors produced by the device by keeping the herb or the plant matter in close contact with the heat source. Further, this device helps in making sure that the individual using it is kept devoid of all the harmful and toxic matter present in regular smoke. These toxic materials present in smoke are responsible for the vulnerability of an individual to a number of diseases related to lungs including cancer.

It is very easy to actually use this device. All that one needs to do is to buy a significant amount of the herb or plant matter that one wants to utilize for the purpose of producing vapor. This matter is supposed to be either powdered or cut into small pieces before it is put into the herb chamber. The herb chamber is provided with an inlet through which hot air can pass into it and touch the plant matter present inside it. A fan present at one end makes sure that one is able to extract the maximum from the herb or plant matter.

The design of this equipment is better than a lot of other vaporizer units mostly because of the heating system employed by it. In this device, there is no requirement or utility of water being placed in a separate vessel and being subsequently used for the purpose of producing the vapors. One can directly pass air over a ceramic element and make sure that it gets hot and extracts the required ingredients from the given herb. Not only is this cost efficient, but also helps in maintaining cleanliness.

The good news is that when you recognize the seriousness of being a diabetic and take constructive steps toward controlling it all of these things above decrease in importance.

Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism. The way our bodies use digested food for growth and energy. Diabetes is associated with long-term complications that affect almost every part of the body. Diabetes is widely recognized as one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States.

Conventional Medical Treatment

Insulin was the first, and remains the primary means of treatment for Type 1 diabetes and is administered by subcutaneous injection. This method is necessary since insulin is destroyed by gastric stomach secretions when it is taken by mouth. Insulin injections must be balanced with meals and daily activities, and glucose levels must be closely monitored through frequent blood sugar testing. Many diabetics need inject insulin only once a day; others require two or more injections. The usual time for a dose of insulin is before breakfast. The dosage is initially established according to the severity of the condition, but it often has to be reassessed as one or another of the variables in the person's condition changes.

Medicines for Type2 Diabetes

Metformin this is often the first medicine that is advised for type 2 diabetes. It mainly works by reducing the amount of glucose that your liver releases into the bloodstream.

Sulphonylureas for example, glibelclamide, gliclazide, glimerpirizide, glipizide, gliquidone, increase the amount of insulin produced by your pancreas. They also make your body's cells more sensitive to insulin so that more glucose is taken up from the blood.

Type 1 (Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus)

Type 1 diabetes is treated with intensive insulin therapy. This type of treatment is designed to achieve near-normal blood sugars safely - while keeping the episodes of low blood sugars ("insulin reactions") to a minimum. Insulin therapy includes:

* Multiple Daily Injections of Insulin (Flexibility is important!). * Use of Insulin Pens or Pumps. * Use of new type of insulin: Lispro or Humlog (extremely fast-acting) - replaces regular insulin.

Diabetes Medications

Sulfonylureas: Glyburide (Micronase, Diabeta) and Glipizide (Glucotrol). Traditional medicines - cheap, easy to take, work well with many people. Stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas. Problems: Doesn't always achieve normal blood sugars and may cause low blood sugars. Metformin (Glucophage): Used in Europe for many years. Decreases sugar production by the liver, which contributes to elevated blood sugar levels. Works well with insulin. Problems: Causes gastro-intestinal upset in some, and cannot be used if you have serious heart or kidney problems.

People with diabetes will experience many long-term and serious complications. These complications will affect virtually every part of the body from the feet and legs to the internal organs.

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or use insulin properly therefore it is up to you and your doctor to learn how to manipulate the functions of your body properly to offset or minimize the complications of uncontrolled diabetes. With proper control you can still live a healthy and long life but it helps to be a fanatic about controlling your diabetes.

Surat city to have its first Skyscrapers

Despite its fast-paced growth compared to other cities in India, it took around 25 years to have an operative airport in Surat. It will take a couple of years for it to become an international cricket venue

A city whose population has risen to 36 lakh in a decade & where per family annual income is about Rs 4.67 lakh, it’s a surprise that there is not a single skyscraper in the city.

But soon the city will see its first skyscraper. The project will be undertaken by a local group of builders at a premier site on way to Dumas just where the Gaurav Path ends in the city.

"We have put up our file requesting for permission to build our complex up to 100 metres on a 10,000 sq.metre plot," said Suken Shah, a partner of Swastik Construction. "We plan to come up with a commercial complex of 23 floors," he said.

Mr. Jivan Patel, the director of planning (DOP) SMC said that “Untill now the department of conservation and recreation (DCR) has given permission to buildings up to 40 metres of height that houses only 14 floors. But if anyone wants to build further up then he/she needs to get a special permission from the state government.”

With the concept of user friendly and intelligent building catching up in the city, this 23 storeyed skyscraper is to have access controlled parking system and elevators. It would be totally air conditioned and will have 100 per cent power back up system and latest security system.

"In China, 100 metre buildings take about 1 to 1.5 years to get complete; here we will need almost double the time as this is new for us," said Shah. "But if permitted by the government, it will pave way for the rest to venture further skywards," he added.

Nitin Patel, Gujarat minister of urban development and housing, told TOI, "We approve of the project depending on the size of the plot and other feasibility. We are working on developing a formula and fixing the charges accordingly. Once the discussions are over we will declare our policy soon."

KIDNEY CANCER: Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatments

Kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped organs located on each side of the spinal column in the upper abdomen. Kidneys are responsible for performing a multitude of functions, including removal of waste and toxins from the bloodstream, controlling blood pressure and maintaining the electrolyte concentration.

Like any other organ in the body, the kidneys are susceptible to the development of malignant cells or cancer. There are several types of kidney cancer that have been detected while performing diagnostic procedures for various health conditions.

Kidney cancer is mainly caused by the development of tumor cells in the nephron and other kidney tissues. The general symptoms are blood in urine, back pain, weight loss and general fatigue. Kidney cancer can be treated by surgical removal of the affected portion or kidney, if it is diagnosed at the right time.

Researchers are of the opinion that frequent exposure to chemical toxins, smoking and side effects of certain medications are the triggering factors for the development of kidney cancer. People who smoke have 2-4 times higher risk of getting kidney cancer than the non-smokers. Also some other risk factors of kidney cancer include age, sex, occupation, kidney problems, prolonged dialysis, obesity, hypertension and certain genetic disorders. The exact cause of kidney cancer is not known yet.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and transitional cell carcinoma are mostly observed among adults, whereas, in children the most common form of kidney cancer is Wilms' tumor. Kidney cancer does not cause any noticeable symptoms in the early stages.

SYMPTOMS
In the later stages, kidney cancer signs and symptoms could include:

1. Blood in your urine, which may appear pink, red or cola-coloured
2. Back pain just below the ribs that doesn't go away
3. Weight loss
4. Fatigue, and
5. Intermittent fever

DIAGNOSIS
Early diagnosis of kidney cancer is rare as there are no significant symptoms. If the physician suspects for any type of kidney cancer, he may perform certain diagnostic tests like urine analysis, blood tests, biopsy, chest X-ray, ultrasound, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan, intravenous pyelogram (IVP) and bone scan.

On the basis of the results, the physician assigns stages to kidney cancer;

Stage I is when the tumor is small and present in the kidney,
Stage II is a large tumor in kidney,
Stage III is characterized by spreading of cancer to nearby tissues other than kidney and
Stage IV is when tumor spreads to distant organs of the body.

One of the more approachable and experienced physicians at the London Hospitals is Mr. Mark Feneley who has a general urological practice as well as a specialist practice in urological cancer. His consultations cover a wide variety of urological symptoms and conditions, and ensure a balanced discussion of benefits and possible risks when interventions are being considered.

India to become a global leader in tech services, says Forbes chief

As software companies move up in the value chain, India is set to become a global leader in technology services. On the other hand weak dollar has hurt the US economic recovery, says the Chairman and CEO of Forbes.

"You have to make the distinction between pumping in money in immediate emergency response to the near collapse of the financial system and when the immediate crisis is over," Steve Forbes, 62, said, when asked what he made of the US government's response to the worst global economic crisis since the Great Depression.

“Number of mistakes made by the US government has slowed the recovery of economy. They've not reduced taxes ... in terms of the dollar, they have not stabilized the dollar. They've weakened the dollar which hurts business investments, hurts the flow of capital and small businesses,” he said

"So the government is prolonging the crisis - we should have had a strong recovery instead," Forbes said, adding that not enough was being done for job creation.

He also said that ‘ Economic growth in India proved that the country is able to handle the crisis very well’. On the other hand he said that the government of India would have to work hard in order to make the economy grow further.

The Indian economy rose 6.7 per cent in 2008/09, while it is expected to rise 6 per cent in the current fiscal year.

"India should continue the liberalization that began in 1991, including simplifying the tax code and reducing tax rates, and allowing more overseas investments into India," he said.

FBI warns INDIA against a possible attack from LeT

Washington: Two Suspected Lashkar’s terrorists David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana who were arrested by FBI last month were part of a plan made by Let to attack the facilities of a Danish newspaper and the National Defence College in India, according to FBI.FBI

Attorneys from US Department of justice opposed the bail application of Rana before a Chicago court on Tuesday. They said that Rana is a danger to the community and might leave the country, if released.

Rana faces a maximum sentence of 30 years, if proved guilty. Meanwhile Headley's bail plea is scheduled for December.

The reference to the National Defence College, New Delhi, as a target was made by the duo during their conversations on September 7, which was recorded by the FBI.

"In the same conversation, Headley and Rana discussed Denmark and other targets, including the National Defence College in India -- Rana, in fact, used the English word "target" in this discussion," the FBI informed the court.

"Later in this same conversation, Rana asked Headley to 'pass along a message' to Individual B (unidentified LeT leader)," the FBI said in its previous affidavit.

"Based on email communications from Headley, defendant Rana was fully aware of the true purpose of Headley's travel to Denmark, and the false pretences that Headley used to gain entry into the facility," they added.

"On or about January 29, 2009, defendant Rana even posed as Headley to communicate with a representative of the newspaper and thereby maintain Headley's cover story."

According to them, Rana had also misled a government official, the Pakistani Consulate in Chicago, to obtain a visa for Headley to facilitate his prospective overseas travel.

Want to loose weight: Eat lots of Tomatoes

Experts Believe that, eating lots of tomatoes is the key to weight loss. Tomatoes0110

According to researchers, the fruit leaves the eater feeling satisfied, and thus suppresses the urge to snack, which is one of a slimmer's main pitfalls
It is thought tomatoes are rich in compounds that alter levels of appetite hormones, making them an easy way to keep off hunger pangs.

To reach the conclusion, researchers at Reading University fed 17 women sandwiches made with white bread, bread enriched with carrots or with tomatoes.

The tomato bread proved the most filling, the researchers found.

Project leader Dr Julie Lovegrove said: “We can’t yet say what the crucial ingredient is, but the results were statistically significant.”

Muslim Clerics issued fatwa against ‘Vande Mataram’

Deoband/Lucknow: Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind on Tuesday said that some of the lines of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ were against the religious principles of Islam and hence they support the decree against the song. On the other hand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), termed the move 'anti-national'.

The resolution asking Muslims not to sing the national song was passed at the national convention of the Jamiat, one of the largest groups of Muslim clerics in India, held at Darul Uloom Deoband, one the largest Muslim seminaries in South Asia, about 150 km from the national capital.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram was present at the convention, which was also attended by some Hindu priests.

BJP said Islamic organisations should desist from issuing such fatwas that are against the nation's interest.

According to BJP’s General Secretary Kalraj Mishra “We oppose the fatwa and will not tolerate such religious decrees at any cost. They are against our national values”.

'Participation of Congress ministers like Home Minister P. Chidambaram is unfortunate. It clearly reflects approach of the Congress party that it doesn't mind compromising with anti-national organisations just to appease the minority community,' said the BJP's state unit president Ramapati Ram Tripathi.

‘Congress Leaders are singing the national song since 1896, but now it's truly shocking and surprising as they themselves are supporting anti-national organisations that are against Vande Matram,' he added.
However, Muslim clerics were firm on their stand

Maulana Salman, who teaches at the Deoband seminary, said: 'We are true Muslims and true Indians. There is no doubt about that. But we no longer remain Muslims when we offer our prayers to anybody else than the Allah. Patriotism is not only about singing songs. We are and will remain Indians without singing Vande Mataram.'

"I am a workaholic, but in the last year I couldn't do much due to my shoulder problem. My team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) didn't do too well and I shot for just one film 'My Name Is Khan'. My injury also pulled me down in terms of my endorsements, but I had time to introspect and spend a quieter time at home with my children," Shah Rukh told reporters at a press conference in Mumbai Monday.

Shah Rukh was in the capital Sunday to kick off the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon and cheer and egg on the runners. It seemed like he is still recovering from an arthroscopic surgery he underwent earlier this year for a nagging pain in his left shoulder.

Tendulkar falls short just by 7 runs to achieve the 17,000 run milestone

Mohali: After getting out for 40 in the fourth ODI against Australia in Mohali, Tendulkar missed to reach the milestone of 17,000 runs in ODI.tendulkar20000211 As the packed PCA Stadium waited in anticipation for the 36-year-old to score the requisite runs, they were left disappointed when Aussie spinner Nathan Hauritz trapped him leg-before in the 19th over.

Umpire Ashoka De Silva gave LBW out to Sachin Tendulkar on Aussie spinner Nathan Hauritz ball. The decision seemed to be controversial as television replays showed the ball was missing the leg stump.

The Indian batting legend, who has 44 One-day hundreds to his credit, will now have to wait until the fifth match on Thursday in Hyderabad to make another attempt at reaching the milestone.

Sachin Tendulkar’s 40 run innings was a mix of caution and aggression during which he hit six fours.

The diminutive Mumbaikar, who made his ODI debut Pakistan in 1989, is already way ahead of his contemporaries when it comes to accumulating runs.

Tendulkar's pile of runs now stands at 16,993 at an average of over 44. He has 91 ODI fifties under his belt.

Rated as the world's best batsman after Australian legend Sir Donald Bradman, Tendulkar has an awe-inspiring Test record. In the whopping 159 matches that he has played, Tendulkar has scored 12,773 runs at an average of 54.58.

The veteran batsman has scored 42 hundreds and 53 half centuries in the longer format of the game.
